Ooredoo Group launches OTT streaming platform in six markets

Ooredoo Group revealed on Sunday that it has partnered with Microsoft Azure and over-the-top (OTT) streaming solutions provider MediaKind to launch its first OTT streaming platform in six markets.

The platform, called 'Go Play Market', uses MediaKind's cloud native MediaFirst and Aquila live streaming platforms, hosted by Microsoft Azure, to offer a range of entertainment options, including live TV channels and video-on-demand, from various digital players and content partners aggregated on a single platform.

The platform has been officially launched in six of Ooredoo Group's markets, including Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Tunisia, Algeria, and the Maldives. Go Play Market will be pitched to both Ooredoo subscribers and non-Ooredoo customers in all six markets.

“With 'Go Play Market', our goal is to establish a comprehensive entertainment hub, tailored to meet the diverse preferences of our customers, as well as non-Ooredoo subscribers, across multiple markets,” said Ooredoo group MD and CEO Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo in a statement.

“By leveraging Microsoft Azure's robust cloud capabilities, we are bringing a diverse range of content and live TV experiences and are launching a service in record time to audiences across multiple countries,” said MediaKind CEO Allen Broome.

The partnership was formally signed at Mobile World Congress 2024 last week in Barcelona.
